Police Arrest Alhaji Sofo Azorka for Alleged Assault on NPP Vice Chairman at Akwatia By-Election
Alhaji Sofo Azorka has been arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command over an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The incident is said to have happened during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025, sparking tensions among party supporters.
Police said in a statement on Friday, September 12, that Azorka was picked up in Tamale as part of ongoing investigations. The arrest comes after days of inquiries into what led to the confrontation at the polls.
According to the police, Azorka has already given a caution statement and was later granted bail. He has, however, been ordered to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, where he is expected to face the court.
The police further assured the public that they are treating the matter seriously and urged everyone to remain calm while investigations continue. They also promised to keep the public informed as new developments unfold.
