Economic Recovery Started Before We Exited Office – Akufo-Addo

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says Ghana's economy is getting better. He credits this to the stabilisation policies his administration put in place before the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the impact of those policies is now becoming visible and felt across the economy.

Speaking to New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates and supporters after the party’s flagbearer election—won by former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia—Akufo-Addo urged unity within the party and rallied support behind its new presidential candidate.

He reminded party members that loyalty is tested after defeat, not victory, and called on all contestants to close ranks and work together ahead of the next general election.

Akufo-Addo also reaffirmed his confidence in Dr Bawumia, citing their 18-year political partnership, which included four election campaigns.

“I know his character, his love for Ghana, and his appetite for hard work,” he said, describing the former Vice President as loyal to both the party and the country.

The former President maintained that Ghana’s economic recovery did not begin under the current administration but was “charted before we left office,” stressing that the policy foundation laid by the NPP is now producing results.

He said the NPP’s campaign message would focus on its record, responsibility, and a clear plan for the future.

Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that under Dr Bawumia’s leadership, the party would present a credible agenda to grow the economy, support businesses, create jobs, protect vulnerable groups, and unlock the potential of Ghana’s youth.

“The NPP has done it before. Under Dr Bawumia, we will do it again—and do it better,” he added.
