Accra High Court Orders Extradition of 'Abu Trica' to US Over $8M Romance Scam
An Accra High Court has ordered the extradition of Frederick Kumi, popularly known as "Abu Trica," to the United States to face charges related to an alleged $8 million romance scam.
The development was confirmed on Thursday, July 2, 2026, by his defense counsel, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, in a social media update. Barker-Vormawor, who is currently outside Ghana on official duties, indicated that the swift ruling has effectively cleared the path for a potential appeal at the Supreme Court.
"I am out of Ghana for work. I just heard that the case of Abu Trica has been fast-tracked and a judge has just ordered his extradition. Hmmm. FBI 1 – Abu 1. I guess this issue goes to the Supreme Court," the lawyer shared on his Facebook page.
Background of the Case
Abu Trica has been in law enforcement custody since December 2025 following a request by United States authorities investigating a multi-million dollar romance fraud scheme.
The latest extradition order marks a major turning point in the high-profile legal battle. Just months prior, the Accra High Court had granted Kumi bail set at GH¢30 million with two justified sureties after he spent an extended period in detention.
With the High Court now greenlighting the US extradition request, the defense team is widely expected to escalate the matter to Ghana's apex court to contest the decision.
