YouTube to Cut Monetization for AI-Generated and Repetitive Content Starting July 15
YouTube is introducing a major change to its monetization policy beginning July 15, 2025. Under the new rules, content creators will only earn ad revenue if their videos feature real human voices and demonstrate originality. This means AI-generated content with robotic narrations or reused video clips with little transformation will no longer be eligible for monetization. YouTube says this move is intended to raise the quality of videos on the platform and discourage low-effort or spam-like uploads that have flooded the site in recent months.
While the update sounds strict, it doesn't ban the use of AI entirely. Content that uses AI tools but is enhanced with human creativity, unique commentary, or fresh storytelling will still qualify for monetization. For instance, creators who add their voiceover, personal insights, or significantly edit reused materials to add value can continue to earn from their videos. YouTube emphasizes that the key factor is how much human input goes into transforming the content, rather than the tools used to create it.
This policy shift is part of YouTube's broader efforts to maintain advertiser trust and protect viewers from misleading or repetitive content. It urges creators to focus more on authentic, thoughtful content rather than mass-produced or templated videos. As the platform begins enforcing the new rules, creators are encouraged to review their existing videos, add their own narration or insights where needed, and ensure their future uploads reflect a genuine human touch.
