Trump Signs Memo Targeting “Anti-Christian” and “Anti-American” Views as Radical Left Violence

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new presidential memorandum aimed at tackling what his administration describes as “radical left violence.” The document, titled Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence (NSPM-7), lists “anti-Americanism,” “anti-Christianity,” “anti-capitalism,” and hostility toward traditional views on family and religion as key indicators of political extremism. It directs federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, FBI, and IRS, to identify and investigate groups, networks, and funding sources connected to such activities.

The move is part of a broader crackdown, which also includes Trump’s recent executive order designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. According to the White House, the memorandum seeks to uncover the organizational structures, financial backers, and recruitment strategies behind political violence in the United States. It empowers task forces to develop “indicia” or patterns of behavior to distinguish between legitimate political activism and activity that poses a threat of violence.

However, the memorandum has already drawn sharp criticism from civil liberties advocates. Groups like the ACLU warn that its vague language could be used to target nonprofits, activists, and dissenters whose views run counter to the administration’s political stance. Critics also argue that the focus on left-wing groups ignores well-documented cases of violence linked to far-right extremism. While the Trump administration insists the policy will be applied in line with the law, many fear it risks eroding First Amendment protections.
