15-Year-Old Nigerian Girl Rescued from Human Trafficking in Ghana

In a powerful act of cross-border justice, Ghanaian police have rescued a 15-year-old Nigerian girl who was trafficked to Tarkwa for sexual exploitation. The Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) led the operation, following a tip-off from the victim’s father, Ogbonno Onuigbo, who reported her missing in Nigeria in October 2025.

The girl managed to contact her father on October 24, revealing that she had been lured from Enugu to Lagos by a woman named Golden Blessing, under the false promise of a cleaning job. Instead, she was handed over to Joy Ogbonna, 25, who transported her to Ghana and forced her into sex work, confiscating her earnings and locking her in a room.

Thanks to the intervention of a compassionate passerby, the victim was able to reach out to her father, prompting swift action from the Ghana Police. On November 3, 2025, Joy Ogbonna was arrested in Aboso near Tarkwa. A medical report later confirmed that the girl is five weeks pregnant.

Joy Ogbonna is currently in custody and will face trial soon. Authorities are actively pursuing Golden Blessing, who remains at large and is believed to be in Nigeria. The Western Central Regional Police Command expressed gratitude to the public for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to fighting human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals.
