"Marriage Is Slavery; I Can't Cook, Clean, or Wash for a Man" — Mzbel

Ghanaian singer and media personality Mzbel, born Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, has sparked debate on social media after sharing her candid views on marriage, love, and relationships.

Speaking during an interview with Ghanaian blogger and broadcaster Zionfelix, the veteran songstress revealed that she has no interest in getting married because she views marriage as a form of "slavery in disguise." According to Mzbel, she is unwilling to take on what she considers traditional marital responsibilities such as waking up early to clean, cook, wash clothes, and perform household chores simply because she is married.

The musician questioned why a woman should be expected to cook and clean for a grown man who is capable of taking care of himself. She argued that adulthood comes with personal responsibility and that marriage should not automatically place domestic duties on one partner.

Mzbel further stated that she would not advise women to rush into marriage, describing it as a system that can limit a woman's independence. She emphasized that she values her freedom and prefers to remain in control of her own life rather than being subject to what she perceives as authority from a spouse.

The singer also disclosed that she would end any relationship in which a man attempts to exert excessive control over her decisions or lifestyle. For her, mutual respect and independence are essential ingredients in any romantic partnership.

During the interview, Zionfelix asked Mzbel why she chooses to enter relationships if she does not see them leading to marriage. In response, she explained that she accepts relationships when there is mutual attraction but does not necessarily view them as lifelong commitments.

Mzbel went on to express skepticism about the concept of love, describing it as a "scam." She added that she prefers to keep her relationships private and expects potential partners to understand and accept that condition from the outset. According to her, she has no interest in publicly displaying her romantic life and would rather keep such matters away from public scrutiny.

Her remarks have since generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users sharing differing opinions on her views about marriage, independence, and modern relationships.
