MASLOC seizes three vehicles from NPP’s Chairman Wontumi over loan defaults

The Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abigail Elorm Mensah, has revealed that the Centre, with the backing of National Security operatives, has retrieved three government vehicles from the residence of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Mensah explained that the move was part of a wider crackdown to recover vehicles and loans from individuals who have defaulted. According to her, five vehicles had initially been traced to Chairman Wontumi, but so far, three have been retrieved, with efforts still underway to reclaim the remaining two.

Mensah emphasized that MASLOC’s policy is clear beneficiaries who fail to meet repayment terms or misuse state vehicles must either return them or pay their outstanding obligations. She disclosed that several cases of misappropriated assets have already been reported to the police.

Citing another instance, she mentioned a relative of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who allegedly refused to return a government vehicle even after acquiring a new one. “We’ve had to seize it,” she added, stressing that the Centre remains committed to protecting public assets.
