Veteran Kumawood actress Mama Kali has opened up about her struggles in the movie industry, revealing that despite her many years of acting, she has no personal car or house to show for her career.
The actress disclosed that although she received payments for her roles, the income was not enough to make major investments such as buying a vehicle. According to her, she has always admired cars, but the money she earned from acting was not sufficient to afford one, making it difficult for her to save towards such a goal.
Mama Kali also revealed that there were occasions when some movie directors failed to pay her after completing acting projects, a situation she said contributed to the financial challenges she faced throughout her career.
During an interview, she was asked whether she had been able to build or acquire a house after years in the Kumawood industry. In response, the actress admitted that she currently does not own a house but remains hopeful that she will be able to build one in the future.
She explained that she still lives in her father's house, which has been her place of residence over the years, as she continues to navigate life after decades in the Ghanaian movie industry.
The actress’ revelation has reignited discussions about the financial struggles faced by some veterans in Ghana’s creative industry, despite their contributions to the growth of local entertainment.
