Former Maine Police Officer Detained by ICE Agrees to Self-Deport

A former Maine police officer, who had been in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for over three weeks, has agreed to self-deport.

Jon-Luke Evans, a Jamaican national who once served as a reserve police officer in Old Orchard Beach, was detained by ICE agents on July 25. Since then, he has remained in custody.

However, recent court documents reveal that an immigration judge has granted him voluntary departure. This ruling gives Evans the option to leave the country on his own terms, rather than face a formal deportation order, and he could do so as early as the day of the ruling.
