Mahama Removes Baba Jamal as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria
President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate removal of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, popularly known as Baba Jamal, from his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The decision follows allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries held today in the Ayawaso East Constituency, where Baba Jamal was contesting as a candidate.
Although no official findings have yet been published by the party or state authorities, sources indicate that the presidency acted swiftly to prevent any conflict between Baba Jamal’s diplomatic role and the ongoing internal party process.
Baba Jamal, a former Member of Parliament and one-time Deputy Minister of Local Government, was appointed High Commissioner to Nigeria as part of President Mahama’s early diplomatic postings after assuming office.
The NDC has not yet issued a formal statement on the allegations or the implications for the Ayawaso East primaries. Party officials say investigations, if necessary, will follow established internal procedures.

Political observers note that the move underscores President Mahama’s stated commitment to party discipline, electoral integrity, and ethical conduct, especially during internal elections.
