Aflao Kayayo Sentenced to 10 Years for Robbing Immigration Officer of iPhone 12

AFLAO, Ghana – An Aflao-based head porter has been sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to robbing a Ghana Immigration Service officer of her iPhone 12 at Ave Maria Junction in the Volta Region.

The Torkor Circuit Court handed the sentence to Akpalu Prince after his admission to the robbery charge. The court found him guilty after he confessed to forcibly taking the officer's mobile phone during the incident.

According to the prosecution, the robbery occurred on Monday, July 13, 2026, while the immigration officer was waiting to board a commercial motorbike at Ave Maria Junction in Aflao. Prince allegedly attacked her and made away with her iPhone 12, valued at GH¢3,600.

The victim immediately raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents and passersby. Members of the public pursued the suspect and successfully apprehended him before he could escape. He was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigations.

Police recovered the stolen iPhone during a search conducted after his arrest. The device was later identified by the complainant as her stolen property.

During interrogation, Prince admitted to committing the offence in a caution statement. He later repeated his guilty plea before the Torkor Circuit Court, leading to his conviction and sentencing.

The court, presided over by Joseph Ofosu Behome, imposed a 10-year prison sentence with hard labour, underscoring Ghana's continued efforts to deter violent crimes such as robbery.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of public vigilance and swift collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies in apprehending criminal suspects and recovering stolen property.
