Nollywood star Jim Iyke has stirred debate with his bold take on parenting, particularly on the role of single mothers raising boys.

In an interview, he argued that while women are naturally nurturing, they are not equipped to raise boys into “proper men” on their own. According to him, the absence of a male figure often leaves boys without the discipline, toughness, and resilience needed to face life’s challenges.

He stressed that male role models—whether fathers, brothers, or trusted mentors—play a vital role in shaping a boy’s character and helping him grow into a strong and responsible man.

Sharing a personal story, Jim Iyke recalled a moment at a beach football game in France when his young son was being bullied. His wife wanted to step in, but he stopped her, allowing the boy to handle the situation on his own.

For him, that moment of resilience and leadership proved why a male presence is crucial in a boy’s upbringing. He believes that while mothers may provide love and care, they risk raising “weaker men” if boys are not also guided with firmness and discipline by male figures
