Google Ends Pixel 6 & 6 Pro Software Updates in October 2026
Google has confirmed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will reach the end of their guaranteed software support period in October 2026, marking the end of updates for two of its most popular flagship smartphones.
The two devices, launched in October 2021 with Google's first-generation Tensor processor, are guaranteed to receive software support for five years from their release date. According to Google's update policy, the Pixel 6 lineup will receive its final guaranteed software and security updates in October 2026.
Once support ends, the phones will no longer receive:
- Android operating system upgrades
- Monthly security patches
- Pixel Feature Drops
- Bug fixes and performance updates
The final major Android version expected for the devices is Android 17, after which no further updates are guaranteed.
Although the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will continue to function after support ends, users may gradually become more vulnerable to newly discovered security threats and compatibility issues as apps evolve.
Users who rely on their smartphones for banking, work, or storing sensitive information may want to consider upgrading to a newer Pixel device or another smartphone that continues to receive regular software and security updates.
Google's newer Pixel phones, including the Pixel 8 series and later models, benefit from significantly longer software support, with up to seven years of Android and security updates.
