GoldBod Donates GH¢5m and Pickups to Support Fight Against Galamsey

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GH¢5 million and five Toyota Hilux pickups to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to boost the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The donation, made at a brief ceremony in Accra on Monday, September 15, is aimed at strengthening the operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat, which coordinates nationwide efforts to curb the practice. It forms part of GoldBod’s broader commitment to gold traceability and the promotion of sustainable, responsible mining across Ghana.

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who received the items, expressed gratitude for the gesture and reaffirmed the government’s determination to intensify the clampdown on galamsey. He further disclosed that the Ministry is collaborating with the Attorney General’s office to expedite the prosecution of offenders, while also working with the Ministry of Transport to regulate the movement of excavators often used in illegal mining operations.
