GAF Dismisses False Reports of Brigadier General Michael Opoku’s Arrest

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly dismissed circulating media reports claiming that Brigadier General Michael Opoku had been arrested by security operatives for allegedly possessing ammunition.

In an official statement signed by Captain V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the GAF clarified that thorough checks with security agencies and national investigative bodies revealed no such arrest had taken place.

“The Armed Forces can confirm that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime committed,” the statement emphasized.

The GAF reassured the public that while this report is false and misleading, any soldier found culpable of criminal acts would face the full force of the law just like any other citizen. They further cautioned the public to disregard the rumor and urged media outlets and individuals to desist from spreading misinformation and disinformation that could tarnish the image of the Armed Forces.
