Burkina Faso Tightens Entry Rules for U.S. Citizens
The government of Burkina Faso has announced new travel requirements for American citizens. Effective immediately, U.S. passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to the West African nation.
The visa can either be applied for online through Burkina Faso’s official e-visa portal or obtained directly from the country’s embassy in Washington, D.C. This marks the end of the visa-on-arrival option previously available to U.S. travelers.
According to the directive, the new system aims to streamline the entry process and enhance border security. Applicants can now submit required documents, pay processing fees, and receive a pre-approved visa electronically, which must be presented upon arrival.
The move comes amid tightening immigration controls and evolving diplomatic policies between Burkina Faso and the United States.
