Senior Al-Shabaab Commander Captured in High-Stakes Joint Operation in Somalia
In a major breakthrough against insurgency operations, forces of the Somali National Army, alongside allied troops, have successfully captured a high-value commander of Al-Shabaab during a coordinated counterterrorism mission in the Lower Shabelle region.

The suspect, identified as Salaad Cusmaan Macalin—also known by aliases including Salaad Dheere—was apprehended in Soo Maray village near Mubaarak following a targeted operation led by the elite Gorgor Commandos. Military sources describe the arrest as a significant disruption to extremist activities in one of Somalia’s most volatile المناطق, where insurgents have long operated with relative mobility.

Reports indicate that the captured commander had played a key role in orchestrating complex attacks against Somali and African Union bases, making him a critical figure within Al-Shabaab’s operational structure. His arrest is expected to weaken the group’s command-and-control network across rural settlements and strategic corridors leading toward the Banaadir region.
While details about his full operational history remain limited, security analysts believe the development marks a strategic win for ongoing counterterrorism efforts, even as authorities caution that further verification and intelligence gathering are still underway.
